Come and Meet Jason Aaron!

We are excited to welcome Jason Aaron to Laughing Ogre Comics High Street on Saturday September 13! He will be in store signing from 4 pm-7 pm. Mr. Aaron is the up and coming author of such titles as Ghost Rider, Wolverine and Scalped.

We asked Mr. Aaron five questions and he was kind enough to answer.

1. Which of your books would you send a new comics reader to read first?

Either THE OTHER SIDE or SCALPED. Those are my two creator-owned series, so they're the ones that are closest to my heart, and they also represent genres outside mainstream super-heroes, so they should appeal to a wider range of readers.

2. Do you find it easier writing for the mainstream, or writing for the fringe?

They both have their challenges, but my creator-owned work usually feels harder because the burden of that whole universe is on me, as opposed to mainstream Marvel books where I'm working with characters that are already established.

3. What comic most inspired you to start writing comics?

Probably Grant Morrison's DOOM PATROL. That book had a big effect on me, back when it first came out. I spent years trying to write just like Grant did in that series. Eventually though I wised up and realized how futile that was.

4. Have you thought about talking an idea like Scalped to HBO or Showtime, or have you been approached by anyone yet?

There's always that possibility, but I'm pretty much just focused on the comic side of things.

5. A lot of the characters that you write are pretty war-like. How are you able to consistently get inside the heads of characters like that?

I try to randomly beat-up or seriously wound at least three different people a week, just to keep the mindset. No, really I'm a laid back kind of guy. It's just that creatively I'm always attracted to angry and tortured sorts of characters.
